Special Topics in Housing and Homelessness Assistance

Introduction #

This page is intended to highlight some of the more unique, needed efforts in housing assistance needed in the Lehigh Valley.

Mortgage Foreclosure Assistance #

Housing Counseling Program of CALV: #

The Housing Counseling program of the Community Action Lehigh Valley (CALV) is intended for low to moderate income families.  It provides a “continuum of coordinated services in one location” in order to better meet their housing and consumer credit needs.  There are two key features to the program:  1) home ownership counseling and 2) the more unique offering related to mortgage foreclosures.  In that instance, the program’s housing counselors provide assistance to homeowners at risk of losing their home to sheriff’s sale using a foreclosure diversion program in the civil division of the Court of Common Pleas in both Lehigh and Northampton Counties.

North Penn Legal Home Ownership Services: #

Like CACLV, North Penn Legal Services provides assistance in preventing mortgage foreclosures when possible.

Homelessness Prevention #

Rooster Relief Fund: #

The Rooster Relief Fund proactively prevents homelessness by providing one-time financial assistance to households who do not qualify for government grants or other existing preventive services. The site is intended primarily for the use of social workers and case managers.  For the layman, click here to get an overview.
