LVMAC Tidbit: New ID cards being issued for military family members, retirees.

No identity chips to be implanted, yet

WASHINGTON —  The Department of Defense began issuing Next Generation Uniformed Services Identification Cards July 31, the first time since 1993 that changes to the card have been made.The complete transition to the new ID card, is targeted for January 2026, said Michael Sorrento, director of the Defense Manpower Data Center.  In the meantime, the current cards will continue to work.  In an effort to conserve resources and limit the impact on ID card issuance facilities, cards will not be reissued solely for the purpose of obtaining the Next Gen USID card.

LVMAC Tidbit — PA Designates Its Veterans as License-Worthy

On March 4 with a lot of fanfare at Fort Indiantown Gap and after considerable time spent to get it up and running,  Governor Corbett officially announced that veterans now can apply to PennDOT’s Department of Motor Vehicles for a new veterans designation on their drivers licenses (or identification cards) at their option and at no extra charge (if being done during as part of the routine cycle for driver’s license renewal or first application).  The designation consists of an American flag with the word “Veteran” beneath it.  The measure was authorized by Act 176 of 2012.
