[Editor’s Note:  We suspect the Department of Defense is having recruiting problems.  This change in policy is meant to make the dependent benefit a reenlistment tool as it originally was meant to be, but may also be budget driven.  The policy goes into effect in one year.  For those affected, the VFW recommends servicemembers  “…who are unsure of how they would like to utilize their GI Bill benefits to transfer one month of eligibility to their dependents now to ensure they fully utilize their benefit …”, since the amount of eligibility that is transferred to each dependent can be changed until the benefit is fully expended.]
