LVMAC Tidbit: Wilkes-Barre VAMC “Don’t Call Policy” Ends for COVID-19

Published by LVMAC on

Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center has just announced it is issuing the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine to those 75 and older under the conditions below.  No doubt because of special storage requirements, the vaccine will only be issued at the Medical Center itself and not from closer outpatient clinics — not exactly the best option for a 75 year old or, for that matter, anyone who lives in the Lehigh Valley.

However, it is a good step forward; and considering the vaccines are free no matter the source, you have more local options already.  Check out St. Luke’s University Health Network and Lehigh Valley Health Network sites, for example.  Pass on the telephone numbers, for not all senior citizens use the internet.  Availability of the vaccine is the primary issue for all — and a perhaps variances in policies.

From their public affairs office:

Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center Administering COVID-19 Vaccine!

Wilkes-Barre is now scheduling COVID-19 vaccine appointments for eligible Veterans who are 75 and older. Eligible Veterans include those who:

  • are 75 or older, AND
  • are enrolled in VA health care, AND
  • receive their VA health care at the Wilkes-Barre VAMC or one of our community-based   outpatient clinics.

If you meet all the criteria listed above and are interested in receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, please call 570-830-7076 to schedule your appointment to receive the first dose of the COVID-19 Moderna vaccine at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center.

Scheduled weekend appointments must enter through the main entrance of the medical center.

Please note, you must have a scheduled appointment to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.
