LVMAC Tidbit — Sigal Museum and American Legion Post 9 Partner to Remember 9/11
From 20 August through 20 September, the Sigal Museum at 342 Northampton Street, Easton will host showings of the 911 Memorial Flag, beginning with a flag raising ceremony at 2.30 p.m. on 20 August.
On display will be a 22’ x 32’ flag using nearly 3,000 American flags representing each victim who died as a result of the World Trade Towers, Pentagon and Flight #93 terrorist attacks. In addition, it includes flags representing the service organizations which participated in the recovery and rescue efforts and the national flags from all countries which lost citizens. First presented to the the City of New York at a ceremony aboard the USS Intrepid in 1992, it has since been viewed by more than six million people throughout the United States, Canada, and, oddly, Iraq.
The memorial flag was made as a community project using volunteers from Bucks County, PA and Hunterdon County, NJ. The intention was to promote healing for our nation and to support American troops in the war against terrorism.
The August 20 Flag Raising Ceremony/Flag Viewing is free. This was made possible by the Northampton County Historical & Genealogical Society and the American Legion (Brown and Lynch) Post 9, a member organization. A second free viewing of the flag will occur on September 11, thanks to the support of the American Legion Post 9.
